Little Novels of Sicily "Novelle Rusticane" Giovanni Verga translated by D. H. Lawrence Giovanni Verga, the Sicilian novelist and playwright, is surely the greatest writer of Italian fiction, after Manzoni. Verga was born in Catania, Sicily, in 1840, and died in the same city, at the age of eighty-two, in January, 1922. As a young man he left Sicily to work at literature and mingle with society in Florence and Milan, and these two cities, especially the latter, claim a large share of his mature years. He came back, however, to his beloved Sicily, to Catania, the seaport under Etna, to be once more Sicilian of the Sicilians and spend his long declining years in his own place. The first period of his literary activity was taken up with "Society" and elegant love. In this phase he wrote the novels Eros, Eva, Tigre Reale, Il Marito di Elena, real Italian novels of love, intrigue and "elegance": a little tiresome, but with their own depth. His fame, however, rests on his Sicilian works, the two novels: I Malavoglia and Mastro-Don Gesualdo, and the various volumes of short sketches, Vita dei Campi (Cavalleria Rusticana), Novelle Rusticane, and Vagabondaggio, and then the earlier work Storia di Una Capinera, a slight volume of letters between two school-girls, somewhat sentimental and once very popular. The libretto of Cavalleria Rusticana, the well-known opera, was drawn from the first of the sketches in the volume Vita dei Campi. As a man, Verga never courted popularity, any more than his work courts popularity. He kept apart from all publicity, proud in his privacy: so unlike D'Annunzio. Apparently he was never married. Joel Osteen Jokes Every week Pastor Joel Osteen likes to get started with something funny. Having a sense of humor is an important attribute for all of us to have. We all need the capacity to laugh. After all, joy is a gift from God. We all know there's more than enough negative things in the world that we hear about each and every day, either through the news media or even in our own lives and the lives of those around us. Are You a Light Hearted Person? I personally feel that we should always be looking for things that make us laugh, chuckle or smile. I like the feeling of being a "Light Hearted" person and I hope you do too. I am arguably Joel Osteen's biggest fan but rather than argue about it, I'd prefer to just give in to anyone else who feels that they are a bigger fan than me. I currently weigh about 170 pounds so if you weigh more than I do, I guess you have a valid point. Now if you found that (my corny joke) even slightly amusing, I believe that you are going to absolutely love this collection of Joel's Jokes that I have put together all in one place that you can read in one sitting if you'd like. And if you're like me, you'll enjoy telling them just as much as reading them. Joel states upfront that the jokes are not doctrinally correct... that they're just to make us laugh so I too want to mention that here. Chapter Headings Included Are: • Ladies Joel Heard About • Men Joel Heard About • Ministers and Pastors • Miscellaneous You could use a good laugh right about now, couldn't you? You could be laughing within minutes. See you on the inside.

The motivational journey of a poet among his walking words, a tale written in prose with many poems and inspirational quotes. 'Wandering among the stars' tells the love story between the protagonist and life. A story where poetry and prose are intertwined like soul and body, to bring this love story to life so the reader can live it. So it's not about a collection of poems, least of all a story in verse. Maybe it could be described as a book of 'narrated poems' or as a 'literary musical'; actually it represents a narrative experiment that lies somewhere between a meta-novel, a collection of poems and an essay; its main aim is to encourage those readers that usually prefer to read only prose works to read poetry as well. (Do you want to try?) As a poetry anthology it includes chapters about love, the cosmos, death, spirituality and poetry itself. Italian edition of this book has been a hit and has remained for more than twelve consecutive months among the bestsellers of its category in the Italian Kindle Store.

Possibility Necessity and Existence

In this systematic historical analysis, Nino Langiulli focuses on a key philosophical issue, possibility, as it is refracted through the thought of the Italian philosopher Nicola Abbagnano. Langiulli examines Abbagnano's attempt to raise possibility to a level of prime importance and investigates his understanding of existence. In so doing, the author offers a sustained exposition of and argument with the account of possibility in the major thinkers of the Western tradition—Plato, Aristotle, Kant, and Kierkegaard. He also makes pertinent comments on such philosophers as Diodorus Cronus, William of Ockham, Spinoza, Hobbes, and Hegel, as well as such logicians as DeMorgan and Boole. Nicola Abbagnano, who died in 1990, recently came to the attention of the general public as an influential teacher of author Umberto Eco. Creator of a dictionary of philosophy and author of a multiple-volume history of Western philosophy, Abbagnano was the only philosopher, according to Langiulli, to argue that "to be is to be possible." Even though the concept of probability and the discipline of statistics are grounded in the concept of possibility, philosophers throughout history have grappled with the problem of defining it. Possibility has been viewed by some as an empty concept, devoid of reality, and by others as reducible to actuality or necessity—concepts which are opposite to it. Langiulli analyzes and debates Abbagnano's treatment of necessity as secondary to possibility, and he addresses the philosopher's conversation with his predecessors as well as his European and American contemporaries. In the series Themes in the History of Philosophy, edited by Edith Wyschogrod.

We through love should be fervently seeking the Lord, and cherishing one another. We must be constantly portraying the heart of God toward one another on a habitual basis. As it is written, "Do not be deceived: 'Evil company corrupts good habits.'" 1Co 15:33 In this book we will distill the best habits down to the seven most productive ones. If practiced properly, they will carry over into every other category of life and drive you to become a highly spiritual Christian.
