Während die Beschreibungen von Masdar City vor allem anhand der unternehmenseigenen Veröffentlichungen stattfinden, da Presseberichte meist nur die Informationen neu aufbereiten, sind die kritischen Darstellungen oft rein hypothetischer Natur. Da sich der bisher Baufortschritt noch in Grenzen hält, ist es derzeit für Experten schwierig die Machbarkeit der Stadt anhand fester Grundlagen zu bewerten.
